In the last nineteen years, I have had the honor to work with thousands of students from different parts of the world. These experiences include teaching English, geography, science, nutrition education, and martial arts in New York City, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Warsaw, Poland, Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, and Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
I am fascinated by people and places, especially China. So teaching English to Chinese students is a pure pleasure for me. I’ve been to China two times to visit my martial arts family. I started learning Hung Gar Chinese Kung Fu in 1995. Chinese kung fu training is a huge part of my life.
When I teach English, I create a balanced atmosphere that includes structure, flexibility, mutual respect, empathy, and encouragement. My goal as an English teacher is to encourage my students to be critical thinkers so they can use their English for personal, business, or academic situations. I find that it is essential to listen to my students with a sincere and open heart. I do my best to listen to my students. I value their opinions and truly want them to express themselves comfortably. In this process, I find that they teach me as much as I teach them.
In my spare time, I enjoy learning languages, hiking, exploring new locations, rafting, and being in nature. Russian and Kyrgyz are my current language projects. I also practice and coach traditional Chinese kung fu and when I have enough energy I create videos for my YouTube channel called Simple Living Nomad: Exploration Advice from a World Traveling Geographer.
